A dear friend of mine, who happens to have a lovely blog written in Portuguese, asked the other bloggers about the trivial food they cook at home.
I have lunch close to work and my dinner is always the same, so I though I should share one dish that João loves - beef. I mean, steak - he'll gladly have it everyday.
To change things a little, once the steak is grilled, I remove it from the pan and add a bit of butter. When it's melted, I add a generous amount of chopped fresh herbs - I usually use parsley, chives and basil or rosemary. Once everything is well combined I pour it over the steak. I serve it with sliced onions browned in olive oil, rice and salad.
It's not an actual recipe but it's a hit with my picky husband! :)
You call it"not an actual recipe?".I call it Yam Yam Yam. This is one big steak.Your friend has a lovely blog indeed. If only I knew how to speak portuguese! Even by listening to Cesaria Evora again and again, I can only say a few words.Tchau Patricia!
ReplyDeleteSimple dishes are so often the best. My husband would love this, too.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would love, love this. He really likes simple.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE steak, but I try not to eat red meat more than once a week at the very most. There isn't much in this world that beats a good steak if you ask me. My husband, however, won't touch it. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteJeff would love this too. I just made him a grilled steak, onion, and mushroom sandwich yesterday. I guess it's a guy thing, huh?
ReplyDeleteOk, now I am hungry... you have such a way with herbs!
ReplyDeleteYou call that trivial?! :) okay you can feed me your trivial food anyday at anytime.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would love this too! :)
ReplyDeletePatricia, microwave popcorn is trivial. This is a nice little quick meal to feed a hungry husband. There's nothing that herbs can't perk up. : )
ReplyDeleteMy husband would definitely pester me once he see's your post :)
ReplyDeleteIt's making me hungry just the mere sight of it!
I think there's also a generous amount of caramelized onions....look at that. I don't think it's trivial.
ReplyDeleteDelicious!
That is LOVELY!! My boyfriend is PASSIONATE about steak and beef, so I will try this for him.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - I honestly LOVE the trivial, every-day recipes from food writers and bloggers. Sometimes those are the best.
I love fried onions! I could just eat those as a meal! This looks like a quick and easy meal to make - definitely not trivial!
ReplyDeletePatricia - there is NOTHING trivial about steak, butter and herbs!! It is one of the finest things in life!
ReplyDeletePatricia that is anything but trivial! I can't tell you the number of awful steaks I've had with similar toppings and seasonings BUT yours is absolutely wonderful looking and the caramelised onions! So yummy looking!!! I'm definitely using this recipe this weekend as we grill for the 4th of July!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a satisfying way to make steak. My mom does something similar when she gets home from work and needs to make dinner for my dad and brother. Quick and tasty!
ReplyDeleteps. I was so surprised to learn in your last post that you've never had a real bagel. I guess that makes total sense since there are many Brazilian food's I've never tried, but I hadn't actively thought about the differences in food availability!
Ari (Baking and Books)
I've no doubt this tastes divine! Butter & herbs?? Your hubby is lucky to have you:)
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I call a generous handful of herbs on the steak. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI love steak, and I get so bored with the same old seasonings. This looks great, it looks juicy and cooked to perfection.
ReplyDeleteA juicy steak with herbs? I would love to have this every day, seriously. Your hubby is very lucky to have sucha talented wife :)
ReplyDeleteYou've been tagged!
ReplyDeleteYum, i love steak and now that we've got a grill I can see lots of ways of making it over the summer months. yum!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm! I think it sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious, Patricia. I usually add a bit of brown sugar and balsamic vinegar when I brown onions to get that caramelised flavour. My partner would have steak everyday too ... and also meat pies (it's an Aussie thing). ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a long way off being trivial food. Frozen chicken nuggets and chips/fries thrown in the oven could be classed as trivial but definitely not this. Looks yummy Patricia.
ReplyDeleteRose, you are so sweet, thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy friend is an awesome baker and cook, not to mention a kind and generous person.
So I can say some words right back at you: obrigada!
Lydia, my husband says that sometimes. :)
Tanna, mine too! :)
Abby, I don't eat red meat but my husband won't go without it. :)
It's the opposite with you and your husband! :)
Susan, I guess so - guys need their meat. :)
Cris, thanks, sweetie!
Cynthia, you are more than invited to have dinner at my place. :)
Joey, our husbands are meat-eaters! :)

Anne, I'm glad you like it!
Tigerfish, he loves beef with onions. :)
Kirsten, I love getting bloggers' recipes as well, I trust my favorite foodies a lot! :)
Wok and Spoon, it's very quick and the ingredients are always at hand.
T.W., I can see you are a meat lover, too. :)
Hey, sweetie, you really made my day with your comment - I'm so glad you are a fellow DB! :)
Ari, you see? There's so much to be tasted and learn, my dear! :)
Valentina, I'm lucky too. Tks, dear!
Angie, sometimes I use even more. :)
Janet, the butter keeps it moist.
Ovenhaven, you are so sweet! Thank you!
Abby, I'll check that out!
Kickpleat, I hope you like it!
Kristen, tks!!
Nora, I would love to try that trick of yours but João is so picky... Maybe I should do it without telling him, what do you think?? Am I a cruel cook/wife?? ;)
Amanda, you are adorable, my friend - so glad you like it!
Always a good idea to keep the husband happy. That's what my desserts are for.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby would love this too, and it's really simple and fresh, just right for Summer time.
ReplyDeletePatricia, I think you should do it, and see if he notices... ;-) he might even like it.
ReplyDeleteGuys just loves steak!!! My husband would definitely love this too!
ReplyDeleteOf course your husband loves it! I haven't even tasted it and I love it too! I can just imagine how delicious that is. Sigh.
ReplyDeletemmm...I can't tell you how much I love red meat. You are making me very hungry right now!
ReplyDeletePatricia,I will be surprise if there's anyone who wouldn't love this.(except for vegetarians, of course). I just had a horrible steak last night at a restaurant. Yours look 100 times better than what I had!
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with Joao on the love of steak, Patricia! And what a wonderful way to keep it interesting. Try sautéing some sliced mushrooms with your herb butter mixture and adding a little brandy for another take on it.
ReplyDeletePatricia - I've tagged you for a meme!! Check out my blog for more info.
ReplyDeleteYumm
ReplyDeleteYou've been tagged again! Same tag as Deborahs. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been a vegetarian for 14 years, and never crave meat, but there is something about this! I want to eat it! Somehow I don't think the butter and herbs poured over tofu would be the same...
ReplyDeletePatricia, i'm coming over for dinner! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your addition of those herbs! Nothing is simpler, and nothing creates more interest than a few simple herbs!
ReplyDeleteTRIVIAL? No, herbs make it DIVINE!!! I love your blog Patricia!
ReplyDeletesteak...you call steak trivial...it's revered in my house. The way you have it with onions remind me of Bistek...sans the lime flavor.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, wholesome meal Patricia! I think it's about time I made some steak too. :o)
ReplyDeleteMy husband would love this too, especially with those onions. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteLynn, those desserts and baked goods would keep anyone happy. I would be smiling forever, I can tell. :)
ReplyDeleteKelly-Jane, I made it again last weekend, can you believe it? :)
Nora, he shall know nothing. ;)
Lululu, it's a guy's thing, right?
Sher, so you are a steak fan, too? :)
Jeff, you and my husband are beef lovers! :)
Mandy, I'm flattered, sweetie! Tks!
Terry, João won't eat the mushrooms but I would. Great idea!
Deborah, I'll check that out, tks!
Tks, Cinderella! :)
Wendy, tks!!
Mallow, I'm thinking of trying it with fish, since I don't eat beef.
Mae, you are more than welcome, dear!
Toni, fresh herbs that I grew myself! :)
Anonymous, I wish I knew who you are! Thank you for the lovely comment!
Veron, I call it trivial because my husband asks for this everyday, he's crazy! :D
Carol, you should try the herbs if you like them!
Sara, thank you! I like the onions, too.
I was just scrolling down your blog and then saw these onions! Well, my life just happens to be all about onions, you know:)
ReplyDeleteCalling this 'not an actual recipe' is not right, but it's a lot like me...looking for the hard way out.
