One of my all time favorite writers wrote in one of his plays: “I can resist anything except temptation”. Well, I can say that the moment I saw these cute pies I knew I’d not resist – I would have to make them.
I hope you don’t resist them, either. :)
Pear almond pies in cups
from Simple Essentials Fruit
4 firm pears, peeled, with stems intact
1 cup (200g) caster sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cups (960ml) water
Almond filling:
¾ cup + 1 tablespoon (162g) caster sugar
40g unsalted butter, softened
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
¾ cup (180ml) heavy cream
2 eggs, separated
1 cup (100g) almond meal (finely ground almonds)
¼ cup + ½ tablespoon (40g) self raising flour, sifted
Place the pears, sugar, cinnamon and water in a saucepan. Cover and simmer over low heat for 15-20 or until the pears are just soft - if your pears are not too firm, less time is required. Allow to cool.
Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F.
Place sugar, butter, vanilla, cream, egg yolks, almond meal and flour in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat until thick. Place the egg whites in a bowl and beat until soft peaks form. Fold the whites into the almond mixture and spoon into four 1 ½ cup (360ml) ovenproof dishes*. Press a pear into each and bake for 30 minutes or until the filling is firm and golden.
* I used slightly smaller cups, that’s why they seem to be so full
Serves 4
Soft pears and cake? What's not to be tempted by? :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'll do this with apples, as don't really fancy pears, except gong pears, but those aren't for baking.
ReplyDeleteLooks so divine! I bet that pie cup tastes fantastic! Hmm...yumm...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!
Regards,
Kristy
I've never baked with pears before, but this looks totally delicious. I just might have to go out and buy some pears this very moment and try this! :D
ReplyDeleteDoes Donna Hay knows that you are using her book's photos? Do you have her permission to use them?
ReplyDeleteI've a lot of doubts about this because all your photos are from published cooking books.
Do you know what is publisher's rights?
that`s absolutely amazing! I love everything in this recipe and pics, dear!
ReplyDeleteWow, these look absolutely delish!
ReplyDeleteMaria

wow! Very pretty! (I love Donna Hay since it has a lot of nice styling ideas!)
ReplyDeleteOMG you are so a dishonest that you erase my comment!
ReplyDeleteYES IT'S TRUE! YOU STEAL PHOTOS FROM COOKING BOOKS!
Stop being like that!
I already send and e-mail to Donna Hay Publisher and you will feel the consequences.
Using other people photos or recipes without authorization it's a crime!
Stop doing that girl!
Un dessert délicieux.
ReplyDeleteJ'adore.
A bientôt.
I cannot resist them either, so so cute in their little cups! Love them!
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute!
ReplyDeleteMark, and the cake is really moist because of the almond meal - I'm sure you'd love it, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWendy, let me know if they turn out OK with apples, I think it's a great idea. :)
Kristy, thank you, sweetie!
College Baker, thank you for stopping by - I hope you like the recipe!
Susan, I'm not using her photos, these are my photos. And I think you have too much time on your hands - go find something useful for you to do.
Paula, thank you, sweetie!
Maria, thank you!
Anh, Donna is the best! :)
Thank you, darling!
Susan, apparently you're either blind or illiterate.
Nadji, merci!
Bron, thank you, sweetie!
Ashley, thank you!
You'll have to prove that to authorities!! And it'll be difficult since you aren't an honest person!
ReplyDeleteGet your one photos and recipes girl!!
Susan,
ReplyDeleteI don't even know Patricia, apart from her blog. But if she will allow me, I want to say a few things about your comment:
When you make such an affirmation like "all her pictures are from Donna Hay", "you're dishonest" and "you steal photos from cooking book", YOU need to prove it. If you can't prove what you said that is a crime, under both Brazilian and US law.
Patricia for all I'm concern can prove very easily that these photos are hers, taken in her home, with her kitchen utensil.
In fact anyone can clearly see that, all you have to do is get a Donna Hay book and compare. Her photos, despite being very good, are not taken in professional studios like Donna Hay's.
Besides why would she link websites from every magazine, or cook she inspires herself in. If she was "stealing" as you say, this wouldn't make any sense. And what about all the recipes that haven't gone quite as planned or don't look perfect. Are those from Donna Hay too? And her recipes from Brazil? From which Donna Hay magazine or book are those?
If you can't take pictures and if you're a bad cook, I'm sorry for you, but stop being jealous of people who can do that with originality and creativity.
Patricia, I'm sorry if my comment has taken a lot of space. Feel free to erase it if you think it is unappropriated.
Very well said, aquatrepasdici! I think this Susan (bet this is a fake name) lady is just a crazy bully. Susan, or whatever, you are just being ridiculous and silly. Shame on you.
ReplyDeleteThese little pear pies in a cup are simply too adorable, Patricia!
ReplyDeleteYour photos (and I haven't the slightest doubt they are, and always have been, all your own) are as beautiful as always. Another lovely post from the always wonderful Technicolor Kitchen!
:)
Jane
aquatrepasdici first of all I'm not Brazilian neither American so before saying anything just use your head and don't say what you don't know.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that I didn't say that all photos in this blog were from Donna Hay... OMG do you know how to read? Maybe will be better for your to re-learn it!!
I just said that this photo and some others are from Donna Hay and that she have other photos from other cooking books to.
I have all Donna's books so I know very well their recipes and photos!
I already report these facts to Donna's publishers and they answered my e-mail with a thank you note saying that they will check how they can proceed against Patricia since she is in Brazil.
I really hope they can find a way!
And by the way Paula... Susan is my real name for sure! Does Paula is yours?
Get a life girls! Don't just who you don't know!
And said this, I'll never be back to this horrifying blog.
A Quatre Pasdici, thank you for your lovely comment - I'm glad that for each lunatic that shows up here I have hundreds of wonderful readers.
ReplyDeleteI would never erase your comment - thank you for standing up for me!
xx
Paula, thank you for your support, sweetie!
Jane, thank you for your support, it means the world to me!
Susan, f*ck you. I'll no longer tolerate your comments here.

ReplyDeleteThanks for this...
Chef Bearden, they hold a little over 1 cup (300ml or so)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by!
