Nutella filled cookies

Nutella filled cookies

My husband is not into sweets but he tells everybody about the cakes, cookies and other stuff I make. It’s funny because I don’t even know more than half of those people. :)

When I started going to his dentist, the receptionists who work there kept asking me about my recipes, sweets, etc.
“Joao says they’re wonderful” – said one of the girls. “But he won’t even try them”, I replied. That was even funnier – how is he supposed to know if the sweets are good?

To clear that out, I baked these cookies and took them to the doctor’s office – maybe now the girls will believe my husband again. :)

Nutella filled cookies
adapted from Modern Classics Book 2

65g (2 oz) cold butter, chopped
32g (¼ cup) icing sugar
68g (½ cup) plain flour
2 ½ teaspoons cornflour (cornstarch)
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 egg yolk
Nutella

Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF.
Process all the ingredients in a food processor until a soft dough forms – my processor is tiny so I made this by hand.
Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Roll teaspoonfuls of the mixture into balls, place on baking trays lined with nonstick baking paper and flatten slightly.*
Bake for 5-7 minutes or until the bases are lightly cooked – the first batch was too soft so I baked the remaining cookies for 10 minutes.
Cool on trays.
Sandwich the cookies with chocolate ganache – I used Nutella. They’re really delicate, so be careful when spreading the filling.

* the cookies on the book were really flat – maybe I should have used less dough in each ball.

Makes 22 filled cookies – I got 18.

These look absolutely decadent! Nutella makes the world go round...I guess politicians don't eat enough of it!
They would not last long in my house!

You are so making me wanna finally try Nutella. I must be the last person alive who hasn't. These cookies are adorable.

you are killing me with the goodness!!
I have so many excellent [in every sense of the word] Nutella memories that I don't have enough hands to count them. <3

I can tell by looking at these that these are good!! My husband loves cookies, and I have half a jar of Nutella, so I may need to try these out!

The appearance, shape, colors tell us it is good. And I know these nutella cookies are good, now :D

HiPatricia, Just wanted you to know I stopped by but I couldn't read. Took one look at the pics and title and knew it was dangerous! :)) Amanda

Patricia, those coookies look yummy. Nutella is probably as common here (Sydney) as vegemite (which is another story). As a kid in Singapore, I used to eat nutella from small disposable containers. They don't sell those anymore. I was so amazed when I was in Italy and saw this VERY HUGE nutella jar. I wanted to bring it home but I didn't have space in my luggage.

These look like macarons, but without the fussy recipe or funky colors. Maybe next time your husband visits that office, the girls will talk up the cookies and tempt him to try one from the next batch you make. Too funny, Patricia. :D

You had me at Nutella. They are beautiful. I love them just as and wouldn't make them flatter. This way they look like macarons. I'll definitely be trying these!

One day a few months ago, Nutella appeared on the shelf in the market in our small village! Wow -- that was an exciting day! And since then I have been collecting recipes that use Nutella. These cookies look great.

:D so what did the girls in the doctor's office say?

These look so simple to make and ideal for dunking!

Nutella seems to be very widely used everywhere, but not in Sweden. Well, some people do spread it on bread for breakfast as they do with orange marmalade too.

What is it made of? Chocolate and nuts?

Judy said...

Well, if your husband won't try them, I certainly will! Tell me when and where, and I'm there!

Anh, I'd do it gladly, sweetie!

Tanna, you've sait it all. :)

Lynn, that's quite a compliment, thanks!

Judy, I'd be glad to have you over for a little snack! :)

Nina, your blog is delicious, there's no need to thank me!

Ilva, thank you, sweetie!

Then who eats all of your amazing sweets? ;) I would love a Nutella-filled cookie right now. I should never visit your site when I'm hungry!

Janet said...

Getting less cookies than you were supposed to out of a batch just mean they're bigger! This is never a bad thing.

thecoffeesnob said...

What i would give for one of these now.

Your husband's too sweet, raving about your desserts to others :)

Mallow said...

I can't keep Nutella in the house - I won't eat anything else until the jar is empty. But maybe these cookies are the perfect excuse to go buy some! Those cookies look like they had a nice texture.

joey said...

Nutella!!! Oh I would wolf this down in an instant...wishing I was the receptionist at your dentist's right now :)

I don't have that book yet...will have to try it!

C also, despite not eating any sweets I make (ok, he'll have a taste), also likes to tell people about my cooking...I blush but smile :)

These are a definite must-bake for me. I can't get enough of nutella. My boyfriend rarely eats the baked goods I make so I always have to bake small portions otherwise I would be eating them all. :P

These are quite lovely! I love the neat little shape of them.

The crepe maker was filling crepes with nutella at the farmer's market this past weekend. YUM!

Patricia Scarpin said...

Susan, I usually take them to my mother-in-law and my (many) sisters-in-law. :)

Janet, thank you for stopping by!
I like your optimistic way of looking at it. :)

Hey, sweetie, he is - thank you for visiting again!

Mallow, I only buy Nutella when I have a recipe to use it in - otherwise, I do the same as you! :D

Joey, isn't it good to receive compliments like those? :)

Amy, I should use the Nutella I have left to make your delicious brioche sandwiches... :)

Melting Wok, it was easy and I'm glad you liked it!

Truffle, me too. :)

Ovenhaven, you are SO right!! Maybe if I start giving the sweets to their patients the dentist will be rich. lol

Angie, they're great together!

Valentina, you are so sweet, my dear!

Kelly, those crepes sound heavenly!

These look great Patricia!

I make these too sometimes, but I usually don't make my own dough. This is the very reason why I decided to join the Daring Bakers! Need to be better at baking!!!

Kelly-Jane said...

Killer cookies! I love nutella, so these sounds and look great.

Kristen said...

Your husband is just too cute! I'm sure that after these beautiful looking cookies, they had no doubt that you are quite the baker.

Anita said...

So beautiful Patricia! And I love the little dish!

Kirsten said...

Oh I am dying!! My boyfriend is the same way...he loves to talk about my cooking/baking, but he is such a health nut. :)

Oh well, I guess he is lucky I am MUCH more of a cook than a baker.

Your cookies are lovely. ANYTHING with Nutella is a good call. Delicious!

sher said...

That's cruel to make those and leave us suffering! :):) Now I will be thinking about those pictures for days. They look absolutely incredible. Brava!!!! You're amazing.
