João is not into sweets (how lucky is he?) but merengue is his favorite - he loves it and always asks for seconds, sometimes even thirds. :D
I know that for my foreign readers "merengue" would be something else - only one of the ingredients of this dessert, actually. I also believe that "Eton mess" is similar, if not equal, to this dessert.
There's not an actual recipe here, you just need place the following ingredients in layers:
- meringues;
- fresh strawberries;
- whipped cream (with sugar):
Refrigerate for a while and serve. Simple as that. :D

That sounds like a nice & quick dessert. I wonder if João will like pavlova since it has similar ingredients but served in a different way.
This looks lovely and light! My husband is a big fan of strawberry shortcake, mostly for the berries and cream -- I think he would love this.
Funny. I don't have a sweettooth either but I absolutely adore meringue! Eton mess, pavlova, baked alaska - love them all.
It's 10.30pm. I should not go and make this. Then again...
I sometimes wish I didn't have a sweettooth - then I wouldn't have to worry so much about what I eat!
These meringues are very popular in the Latin bakeries here. They make a nice low-fat sweet...IF you can keep from reaching for the cream. ; )
Lovely and easy! This is the dessert to make for summer. :)
That looks perfect to me with my low tolerance for sugar! And why couldn't you do it with other fruits like blueberries or cherries . . .
Patricia I'd have seconds with João.
Patricia! What a coincidence, I am going to make a Strawberry Pavlova today! Your dessert should be called Eton 'dream' or 'cloud', why 'mess' for something so beautiful??
Oh, that looks like heaven in a bowl! I would definitely ask for seconds, I mean thirds, of this. Or could I just eat it for dinner, please?
Simple and delicious Patricia!
Sometimes, simple things still are the best! Would like to have a spoonful or two...
simplest way to enjoy the strawberries. Delicious!
Making meringue is one of my worst, esp after baking it.
Yours' just seems so simple, delicious and beautiful!!!
I have been dying to try this out. There is a fab recipe in Jamie Oliver's new book that I have to try. I love Eton Mess - but have not had the pleasure of making it myself yet! Nice one!
I love meringue too. Yours looks delcious. Can't think of a better way to use up all that extra egg whites! :)
Wow! That could become my favorite dessert too! It looks perfect--so pretty and light, but creamy and rich. YUM!
oh that is goegrous!!!
I love this dessert Patricia.
This is mouth watering!
Now I remember my mother making something we used to call "Hov-dessert" (Hov = Royal court).
It was a Sunday dessert, which consisted of meringues, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Sometimes she added vanilla ice cream and bananas too.
Afterwards ... food coma ...
That does look super good. I am pretty sure it would be popular at my house too!
I haven't tried making meringues yet, but I know I love eating them - that looks beautiful!
It's the opposite with my hubby, he has a sweet tooth except when it comes to meringue. He likes only on key lime pie. But I do, I do especially this one.
Hi,Patricia thanks for drop by my blog, your dessert look so good and yummy :)
Wow, that looks so light and easy to make. I wish that I didn't have a sweet tooth too.
This is so elegant yet simple! What a great dessert, it's no wonder Joao loves it so much. :)
my bf went to Harrow (you're right about Eton mess being the same thing) where they ate something similar but since Eton is their arch-rival they call it something else. =)
Nora, you're right. Very quick to put together, especially if you use store-bought meringues (I did).
I tried making a pavlova months ago but my oven wasn't OK so it was a huge failure. I should try it again!
Lydia, tks!! I'd love to hear your/his opinion about it. :)
Wendy, I have never had baked alaska but I've seen it many times - now YOU got me craving it. ;-)
Too bad it's only 3:30pm and I still have to work for 2 more hours. :)

One of my favorite desserts! I love it with raspberries too. Meringues were the first thing I would get at the bakery when I was a kid. Love them!
I LOVE Eton Mess :D
This is utterly a very sweet and delicious-looking dessert. It makes my mouth water!
What a fluffy thing of beauty. I want to take a bath in it!
Can't believe I live in the UK and have never had Eton mess! I'm definitely going to have some soon before the strawberry season ends!
