Trivial food - steak with herbs

A dear friend of mine, who happens to have a lovely blog written in Portuguese, asked the other bloggers about the trivial food they cook at home.

I have lunch close to work and my dinner is always the same, so I though I should share one dish that João loves - beef. I mean, steak - he'll gladly have it everyday.

To change things a little, once the steak is grilled, I remove it from the pan and add a bit of butter. When it's melted, I add a generous amount of chopped fresh herbs - I usually use parsley, chives and basil or rosemary. Once everything is well combined I pour it over the steak. I serve it with sliced onions browned in olive oil, rice and salad.

It's not an actual recipe but it's a hit with my picky husband! :)

You call it"not an actual recipe?".I call it Yam Yam Yam. This is one big steak.Your friend has a lovely blog indeed. If only I knew how to speak portuguese! Even by listening to Cesaria Evora again and again, I can only say a few words.Tchau Patricia!

I LOVE steak, but I try not to eat red meat more than once a week at the very most. There isn't much in this world that beats a good steak if you ask me. My husband, however, won't touch it. Go figure!

Patricia, microwave popcorn is trivial. This is a nice little quick meal to feed a hungry husband. There's nothing that herbs can't perk up. : )

Patricia that is anything but trivial! I can't tell you the number of awful steaks I've had with similar toppings and seasonings BUT yours is absolutely wonderful looking and the caramelised onions! So yummy looking!!! I'm definitely using this recipe this weekend as we grill for the 4th of July!!

Sounds like a satisfying way to make steak. My mom does something similar when she gets home from work and needs to make dinner for my dad and brother. Quick and tasty!

ps. I was so surprised to learn in your last post that you've never had a real bagel. I guess that makes total sense since there are many Brazilian food's I've never tried, but I hadn't actively thought about the differences in food availability!

Sounds delicious, Patricia. I usually add a bit of brown sugar and balsamic vinegar when I brown onions to get that caramelised flavour. My partner would have steak everyday too ... and also meat pies (it's an Aussie thing). ;-)

This is a long way off being trivial food. Frozen chicken nuggets and chips/fries thrown in the oven could be classed as trivial but definitely not this. Looks yummy Patricia.

I'm right there with Joao on the love of steak, Patricia! And what a wonderful way to keep it interesting. Try sautéing some sliced mushrooms with your herb butter mixture and adding a little brandy for another take on it.

I've been a vegetarian for 14 years, and never crave meat, but there is something about this! I want to eat it! Somehow I don't think the butter and herbs poured over tofu would be the same...
